The Therapy Process

The foundation of our work remains the same, whether in a one-on-one setting or within a group. Psychotherapy, and therapeutic facilitation, is a confidential, boundaried, and contractual relationship between the therapist [myself] and the client(s) [you], aimed solely at enhancing the psychological wellbeing of the client.

My focus is on helping my clients understand and manage their thoughts, emotions and behaviours through a supportive therapeutic relationship. The non-judgmental, empathetic environment of this relationship is designed to offer an opportunity for clients to explore their inner world and aspects of their lives that may be contributing to feelings of unhappiness, stress, sadness, confusion, anger or anxiety. I recognise that entering into this process may bring up mixed feelings and thoughts, possibly conflicting ones. Building trust in the safety and containment of our relationship and what I offer may take time. I encourage you to bring all parts of yourself, including those aspects that may feel less desirable.

My training at CCPE was in Integrative transpersonal psychotherapy. The integrative approach blends techniques and theories from different schools of traditional psychotherapy with modern and contemporary methods and modalities to deliver a tailored approach to a client's requirements and needs.

Transpersonal psychotherapy underpins my practice; it integrates spiritual and transcendent perspectives into psychological healing. It goes beyond mental health, viewing crisis as an opportunity for growth. The philosophy of a connection to something greater, whether that’s spirituality, nature, or the divine. By exploring consciousness through techniques like mindfulness, dream work, meditation and creative expression, it helps individuals reconnect with purpose and authenticity, guiding them towards transformation, self-realisation, and a more profound sense of interconnectedness with the world. Transpersonal psychotherapy is often considered an extension of Humanistic psychotherapy, an approach that centres on the belief that people are naturally good, have the capacity to change and are capable of finding meaning and fulfilment in life through self-discovery and authentic expression. Existential psychotherapy explores the human condition by addressing life's fundamental concerns, such as death, freedom, isolation, and meaning. This approach centres on the idea that much of human anxiety and distress stems from grappling with these existential realities. It focuses on how individuals can confront and come to terms with these inherent challenges in life, aiming for personal growth and self-acceptance. Psychodynamic psychotherapy focuses on understanding how past experiences, particularly in early life, influence current thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It aims to uncover unconscious patterns that affect everyday life.

My practice is built on integrity, authenticity, confidentiality, trust, and a deep commitment to honouring all that emerges within our work together.
